It was reported in the Leicester Mercury on Thursday 1 February that Councillor John Mugglestone, City Council cabinet member for the environment, had stated that the Council would be applying for about £500,000 of Government money to build the controversial traveller's site on Ratby Lane.
He confirmed that "the land on Ratby Lane represents the most suitable location in the city and we therefore intend to submit a bid for funding by February 28th.
If we get the funding, we will then put in a new planning application for the site on Ratby Lane".

County Council leader David Parsons said that the County Council was continuing with its bid for funding for sites in north west Leicestershire, as well as in Hinckley and Bosworth, and he believed that they could be used by the city.
He said "I'm still very keen to co-operate with the City Council. It's a pity it's not a two way process".

The Parish Council will continue to monitor the situation closely.
