A report in the Leicester Mercury earlier this week stated that Councillor Wann, the City Council spokesperson for the environment, had said that he 'wanted the proposed traveller's 'transit' site on Ratby Lane open by Christmas.'

However, a further statement, quoted in the Leicester Mercury on Wednesday 27 June, stated that 'City Council leaders had not chosen the Ratby Lane site for the proposed development, in spite of Councillor Wann's earlier statement.'

A later statement by Councillor Wann confirmed that any decision about the location of the site would not be made until the City Council had received Government funding for the project.

The article went on to confirm that the City Council were likely to find out this summer whether the bid for Government cash had been successful.

Councillor Wann also stated that the City Council were working closely with the County Council on this matter.

In response to a question from the Parish Council, the City Council have today confirmed that the original proposal for the Ratby Lane site was withdrawn early in January, and no further application has yet been presented.

The Parish Council, which remains totally opposed to the proposal for a traveller's site on Ratby Lane, will continue to monitor the situation carefully and updates will be provided here, when further information becomes available.
